When I import an audio file onto audacity and hit play I cannot hear anything even though it is playing. Obviously the sound is on on my computer, so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what the problem could be?
In Audacity, check to make sure you haven't clicked the "mute" button on the left side of the track.
Also, if you have multiple tracks, make sure none of them has "solo" clicked.
If those are both ok, check whether your audio imported as stereo when it was only mono. Stereo will have two soundwaves in the track but if the file was mono, one of those waves might just be a flat line. If so:
- split the track by clicking on the button marked "audio track" at the left of the track window and dragging down to "split track."
- delete the track with the flat soundwave
- play back the track with a varied wave
