As you saw in your Dreamweaver training in lab last week, we have a bug with pasting text in from MS Word. We've figured out why.
When Microsoft put out Office 2008, they changed how things are saved on the clipboard. This means it won't play nicely with Adobe Creative Suite (Dreamweaver and InDesign in your case), chat and a few other apps. It won't paste at all unless you strip away all structure and formatting, including paragraphs. This leaves you with one giant block of text. That makes things difficult. (This should affect Macs only, not Windows machines if that's what you're using outside lab.)
Here is a work-around. It's a few extra steps, but it'll save you the headaches of putting in all those paragraph marks when you paste text. This is only necessary if you're pasting text from Word. You don't need to worry about this if you're typing directly in DW.
1. Open your Word file and put two paragraph returns between each graf (use edit/find-replace to change one paragraph return to two, to do this, enter ^p in the "find" and ^p^p in the "replace with")
2. File/save as and choose the format .txt (for text-only file)
3. Close .txt file in Word and reopen using Text Edit
4. Select all and edit/copy
5. Go to DW and edit/paste
