Can anyone explain to me exactly how to insert our slideshows and audio stories into the web pages. For the slideshow, I don't know what to insert, because there are so many folders and files that make up the slides project.
next to the image button, the tree, there should be another button that allows you to select insert a plug in, its on the bottom of the list of options. You just click that and then it gives you options for which file you want to insert. You should have both your slideshow and audio story in your web folder.
The above instructions are correct only if your slideshow is a .mov file. If you used SoundSlides, here's an earlier note on how to do it: http://202training.pbwiki.com/links%20and%20plugins#comment1226635265
I'm about to post a separate page on adjusting the size of your SoundSlides if it's too big to fit in your design.
Ok I got the slideshow in, but since I am on my computer with the soundslides demo it has a watermark, how can I get rid of this?
Also, when I tried to test the audio plugin I inserted, it said it was unable to find the plugin that handles this media type. I also tried to have a link to the audio file and then when testing it, it won't just play it, it wants me to save the file.
- to get rid of the watermark, you need to bring the SoundSlides project folder (NOT just the publish_to_web folder) to the labs Monday morning at 8:30 to export
- what format is the audio file in? I'm guessing it's not an mp3 b/c I can't think of a browser that couldn't handle that file type. Make sure you've followed the steps to convert to mp3
I've been having the same problem as Abby with my audio story. It is an mp3. I've been working on it all evening and can't figure out what the problem is
If the browser is saying you don't have the correct plugin, you could try downloading quicktime (just google it for the download site). Is the audio plugin showing up correctly on the page? If not, the audio file may not have gone in correctly. Have you tried deleting it and reinserting it?
I had the same problem. I ended up just dragging my mp3 into itunes and importing it from there...worked when I did it that way (and make sure you add the itunes file to your IS root folder too!)
I am having similar problems with my audio story. I have it in mp3 form in my root folder, and it will not play. Just says can't find plugins to play it, but I have quicktime, itunes, etc... Any thoughts?
If you are having trouble seeing a controller for your embedded audio, go to the parameters for the plugin (where you went to type in "autoplay; false") and add "controller" in the first box and "true" in the second. This worked for me.
I am also having this problem.
When I try to play the audio plugin, a message appears that says "Unable to find the plugin that handles this media type. Dreamweaver looks in both the "Configuration/Plugins" folder, and the plugins folder for each of your installed browsers." I have no idea what that second part means. I am positive that it is an mp3 file, no funky naming, I have updated versions of iTunes and Quicktime..
I am going to try putting it in iTunes, but I doubt that will work. I'll update if it does.
Well, I think I figured out the problem. Quicktime is not installed as an add-on/plugin in Internet Explorer, but I have no idea how to add it. I tried to search for it in the manage add-ons functions, but nothing showed up for "quicktime."
J202 students who wish to be added as authors should e-mail me. Others not registered for the class are welcome to use the entries in this knowledge base but may not submit questions here or via e-mail. Thanks!

Also make sure your audio file is in your IS root folder and named according to web standards: NO spaces, capitals, symbols.

Did you actually convert/export it as mp3 or just change the file extension to mp3 (seems like a simple question, but it's often the problem)

its exported as a mp3. It works to link to the file and then it plays, but I can't insert it as a plug in, etc...

Try testing it on a different computer. I'm wondering if your computer is missing the browser plugin to play audio.

Perhaps I will have to use a computer at school.

It's actually Flash player that IE is looking for and can't find. It should appear fine on our computers.
