Excess White Space at Bottom

Page history last edited by nnewhouse@wisc.edu 15 years ago

I have a huge white space between my content and my bottom nav bar, and have no idea how to delete it. Thanks.

This is often because you have a whole bunch of extra returns in one of your table cells. Click in and delete to see if that fixes it. It also can happen when you have a long image in one of the cells. Do you have a tall image somewhere?

I don't have any really tall images, but when I try to delete the excess white space, it makes my bottom nav bar huge so the background color is a really wide band at the bottom. Is there a way to just make my text stay at the top and to the left? I tried to make it a fixed position in my style, but maybe I didn't do it right, because it screwed up my alignment.

Do you have a fixed height for the table as a whole? Maybe the bottom navbar is growing to fit that height when the main area is made smaller.

Post your site to your mywebspace and link us if you want us to take a look at your code.

Ok, I'm completely technologically useless, yes I have a mywebspace, no idea how to use it. But I'd really appreciate your help!

Ok, I uploaded my dreamweaver to the web on mywebspace, do i have to do something specific to link you?

You need to link us to your site. If you made a folder in the main directory of your mywebspace called "IS" then the path to your site would be approx:

www.mywebspace.wisc.edu/NETID/IS/index.html

I got it. I opened your page. The excess space problem was what I suggested earlier. You had a gazillion extra returns in the columns. I think this was because you were trying to get the left nav aligned to top. Rather than putting in the extra returns, just select the table cell, <td>, and choose vertical align top from the properties palette.
I think it's OK now.

And btw, I saved my changes, so I think the page is OK now.
