Editing Audacity after you've exported it

I'm just curious -- can you go back and edit an Audacity project after you've exported it an an MP3? I tried doing this so I could change a voiceover file, and when I listed to that part, my voice came out like an old LP record playing on the wrong speed -- the words were really deep and distorted and slow. Amusing, but not what I intended! Thanks.

It might be the sample rate/bit rate it's playing at. I don't have Audacity on the computer I'm on right now, but in the Windows version at least, there's a little dropdown menu at the bottom of the window with a number like 4400 or something. When I changed mine around a little bit it sounded better. Sorry this isn't the most educated reply, I'll try back later when I'm on a computer that has the program so I can explain myself better!
