Hope it's not too late, but I just got done with the test run. Actually you can get a demo version of soundslides for free from their website: www.soundslides.com. Everything works fine!
That's right. But if you wait for a couple of seconds before hitting the "play" button, the watermark will disappear once you start watching the slideshow. At least it works on my mac...

You cannot use the demo version. It exports with with a watermark.

You are not allowed to turn in a piece with the watermark.
