Audacity

I downloaded audacity to my computer and when I tried recording it said there was error and to check the "input." I can't figure out where the input is or what I have to change?

Mac or PC? If Mac, go to system preferences/sound and set input to "internal microphone." If PC, you'll need an answer from someone else in the class. I don't know how to change the sound on Windows (but my guess is it's somewhere in the same preferences area).

do you know whether your computer has an internal mic? if not, you would need an external mic.

Julia, in the windows version of Audacity access the preferences menu through edit>preferences. To troubleshoot your input issue, try manipulating the various options on the Audio I/O tab which stands for INPUT/output.

Also remember that you can always borrow a mac from the Journ. Reading Room or one of the libraries and run audacity on it, it's a free download, so I'd recommend not spending too much time trying to get it to work on a specific computer.

Hey guys, I'm having a little trouble exporting my file to an MP3. I downloaded LAME but when I try to convert the file using LAME, a message pops up saying "Could not open MP3 encoding library!" I've tried it on both a PC and a Mac and the same message comes up. Any suggestions?

Sam, in the future please post questions on new topics to a new item. I'll post a video response to your question about LAME MP3 encoder in a few minutes...
